Remarks: 47570 off 08:12 Manchester Victoria - Glasgow Central and 87021 forward on Saturday 25 March 1989. Due to engineering work this train would have a diesel locomotive from Manchester to Carlisle via the famous Settle - Carlisle route. The electric would then conntinue on the West Coast route. At these times Carlisle station was full of diesel and electric locomotives.
