Remarks: Amtrak's Auto Train #52 has just departed its terminal in Sanford, Florida as it crosses the St. John's River via this swing bridge. Two P42's, 15 passenger cars and 17 auto carriers make up today's consist.
Take care with "the longest" claim. The Dutch have run a 1600 metre long passenger train and The Ghan ran from Adelaide to Darwin with 43 cars on its first trip. Your Amtrak #52 may well be the longest on a given day but certainly not every day.
I have seen the Auto Train many times with almost 200 axles. Sometimes it is around 160 axles but that's still very impressive. Its def the longest in the USA but I bet it rivals the whole world for sure. Its always the highlight of the train watching trips on the A-line.
