Remarks: Union Pacific's #844 thunders across the flats of Colorado...
on an excellent Saturday afternoon. After spending the afternoon in Cheyenne, it returns to Denver for the night. Behind it, UP's big DD40AX 6936 is keeping pace with her.

Is the DD40AX under power or is it just there as insurance should 844 have a breakdown? N&W 2-6-6-4 1218 used to run without diesel backup and 844 could easily handle that train.

TShe sure bounced over the grade crossing where a tamper can't get. Totally an excellent clip. Thanks for posting.

The DD40x is there for insurance, and for assistance. The loco can handle the train easily but they don't want to waste oil and water when they the diesel can take some work off the 844
