Remarks: On one of my last visits to Bend Tower before she was torn down, I see two different Santa Fe units in the SP/SF merger colors which of course never happened. Both units had the SP painted out it appears anyway. Maybe they were painted like this with plans to add the SP after the merger took place. Any info on this will be appreciated.

According to what i have read, both the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe had painted their units in this scheme, and were lettered with either SP or SF for the failed merger, and had planned to add the other roads reporting marks on after the merger.
