Remarks: NBER CF7 2429 honks a perfect two-longs-one-short-one-long for a farm crossing as it leads a short string of covered hoppers somewhere northeast of Altoona, PA on August 5, 1994. My father and I were leaving Altoona on our way to Scranton and a visit to Steamtown. As we drove out of town I noticed the rusty track next to the highway, complete with equally rusty PRR signals. I had no clue anything moved over the line and did quite a double-take when I saw the hopper cars rolling along, ducking in and out of the trees. We had just gotten ahead of the train when we came on a gravel road that crossed the tracks, and I had just enough time to slide to a stop, jump out, and roll tape as the CF7 and 10 hoppers approached. Thus was I introduced to the Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad.
