1218 sits side-by-side with 611 at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke. I rode many many of the trips with these two great machines from 1982 to 1994. Great times that I still miss very much.

The Norfolk Southern should put the 1218 and 611 back on the rails, if the UP can have an active steam program so can the NS. In fact, the 844, which my grandpa proudly worked on, along with several other steamers as a machinist in Pocatello, Idaho, has never been off the active duty roster since she was delivered o the Union Pacific in 1944.
