Remarks: NS train 171 heads by the Amtrak station on it's way to Hayne Yard. There was one engine still in Southern paint in the consist. Notice after the wood chips on the head end, there are some of the Southern turnout cars returning empty to Atlanta. Also a Southern bay window caboose brings up the rear.
Very interesting combination of power and all appear to be online. thanks for sharing Greg.

What an awesome video! What were the 'turnout' cars used for? I have filmed some of those present day going through Salisbury, NC. Thanks for sharing!

The turnout cars carried prefabricated switches (turnouts) from the fab plant to field locations to be installed by local MOW forces. Each switch was carried on two cars, with the tall car carrying the wider (frog) part of the switch. The tall car would rotate the switch in the air at an angle to allow it to meet clearance restrictions. Thanks for the comments, Greg Ropp.
