Definitely a candidate for some stupidity award! The F7 and GP7 were great locos! I remember having both in my Lionel train set as a kid! |

Did he drive around the gate or do something I missed? I counted 17 seconds from the time the truck crossed the grade to the time the train crossed. I've seen lots worse. |

Stupid Driver, should've waited for the train to pass. |

I don't understand what was wrong here. That train was no where to be seen when he went through the lights. I see drivers stop at crossings for us all the time and just have to smack my head at why they wouldn't go through when they have all the time in the world. |

I saw nothing wrong with what this guy did. I would understand the comment about him being a moron if he drove around down gates, but this type of grade crossing you cross at your own discretion. And the train was not even near the crossing when he crossed. |

Maybe not the stupidest thing I've ever seen but by law if the lights are flashing you must stop, simple as that, the lights are the same as gates, you can not cross at your own discretion.
Good video by the way, great lighting and power. |

The train was miles away. The driver knew what he was doing. |

Where is the moron? |

I am confused as to why this driver is being labeled as a "moron"? what exactly did he do wrong? I counted 17 or 18 seconds from the time he crossed, until the train reached the crossing...not even remotely close to being able to be classified as a "close call" or a "near collision". This train appeared to be moving at less than 20 MPH. There are certainly videos on this forum that classify as "close calls", but this isn't one of them. I think a lot of railroad enthusiasts lose sight of the fact that well over 99% of the general population does not desire to sit and watch a train pass, and will choose to press through a crossing when they are safely able to... exactly as in this example. This was a perfectly safe execution of a driving through a crossing. Let's keep it real here, guys. |

The train was a ways down the tracks! This was not a close call. |

In the state of Utah, this is not a violation - I am a cop, and I teach OLI in the High Schools. Our statute reads that the active signal without a gate is the same at a Stop sign - full and complete stop, OK to continue if the train does not prestent an immediate hazard. The judges in this state have been very consistant that the train is not 'an immediate hazard' unless it is honking for that specific intersection.
I am very hard on grade crossing violators, but there is no violation here. |
