You've gotta be kidding me; I wouldn't be surprised if the crew crapped their pants. I'm not sure, but to me this one seems closer than your last "Stupid Driver Video," but maybe it's the zoom you used in this one as opposed to the last video that's giving the slightest illusion. Trouble is, your realy up against it from the start with dumb people like this. I bet most of them have never seen the consequences and very likely outcome from a few thousand tons of train hitting a car. Unless theres a realy hard hitting and graphic add campain, idiots like this will keep doing it and will most likely end up dead some day. |

That idiot was lucky this train was rolling at 60mph or he would have been toast. God how I remember those pathetic sick horns on the thousands of UP engines I saw in the mid to late 1990's when they seemed to be on every train here in Indiana. |

I have just witnessed this video for the first time today...this is also the same day that I have seen video of an accident with Amtrak around Detroit MI a week or so ago. In that incident, in case someone isn't up to par on news, was that five teenages were killed at this scene. The driver had numerous traffic citations and suspensions of his license but, yet, he still insisted on driving. That video was from a business camera nearby and even though you didn't actually see the impact there was still fear. The pictures from the newspaper website in that area were evidence enough. It's too bad we can't make every teen watch these videos to try to bring the point home - DO NOT TRY TO BEAT A TRAIN!!! IT MAY BE THE LAST ACT YOU PERFORM!! |

I've been an engineer for 15 years now. After witnessing 50+ incidents such as this one, my motto is "Don't dump it unless you nail 'em!". I also saw a clever Burma Shave style slogan on a freight car which read "He saw the train and tried to duck it, kicked first the gas and then the bucket". These extremely close calls don't even make me yawn anymore. It's when I hit a car and put the train in emergency and then have to "take that walk" that makes me crap my pants. That is my nightmare that I have to deal with. The worst part is it's not idiots like the one in this video that become victims. It's innocent people who honestly didn't know, were confused, lost or are elderly. It's very rarely morons like this one that get hit and/or killled. |
