Remarks: Hot train #219 passes Amtrak station on Magnolia St in Spartanburg on it's way south to Atlanta. The lead unit SOU 3506, still in it's Southern scheme, was a model unique to the Southern Railway, the B30-7A1. Southern requested GE build the engine with a more fuel efficent 12 cylinder engine as opposed to the standard 16 cylinder engine in a B30-7. GE added an "A" to the model to indicate this option. Southern also requested more powerful dynamic brakes and GE added a "1" on to the model to indicate that option.

Brings back wonderful memories of growing up along the Southern. Fortunately, I have a few good photos of those B30-7A1s.

Always nice to see the imitation aluminum, gold and black in the lead. A rare treat indeed. Keep 'em coming. Glad you were able to capture it and share with us all
