Remarks: First viewed across the valley, this eastbound made for a long show as it climbed toward Soldier Summit. As the train approaches the camera, the engineer drops the throttle one notch for the curve, then can be heard throttling back up to Run 8.

Wow, classic Rio Grande! I love the mars light, thanks or posting.

Wow! And DRGW, no less. Enough to make a steam guy turn diesel, if not for a few minutes, any way! I posted Utah Railway battling the same summit but not a production like this - very well done!

The whining turbos, the straining prime movers, the deafening exhaust! Simply 'Grande!

One of my most favorite videos on Rail-Videos.Net. Thank you so much for posting this and sharing it with us all.

Just think of it: I can see Chinese steam in Iowa and Kentucky, but I can't see (or hear) tunnel motors on the Rio Grande.

Ecellent video, do you know what the height difference is between the lower left to right travelling track and the one that passes the camera at the top ? Cheers Andrew Gorrie

Great video! Classic Rio Grande.I wish I had photographed it more often. It is gone, but never forgotten.

Wonderful stuff from the great master. You have inspired me, a mere Brit, to upload some of my own efforts, Soldier Summit being a particular favourite.

wow, that is just awesome... feel the power... look at Soldier Summit on Google Earth, just west of the township... that looks like some HAIRY/SCARY railroading... piloting many thousands of tons of steel around hairpin turns and grades... wow, this video is excellent...
