Remarks: I can't say that I've ever seen Amtrak forced to back out of a station... until yesterday. A rail on the passenger main rolled over, derailing about 5 of Q195's empty well cars. These cars were left on the main, taking up half of the station platform, thus Amtrak was only allowed to come in half-way and then was forced to back out in order to leave. Derailment clips at the end.

Now that's a RARE find! Great work, Paul.

Interesting video. Thanks for Sharing. At Denver's Union Station, The station is on a Spur that ends at the station, so all the Amtrack trains regularly back into the station, and then pull forward to get out. SO Amtrack trains do have to back up every time they come into Denver.

I have a question. Why didn't they just load the passengers on the track closest to the yard? Then the train wouldn't be forced to back out.

They didn't because of public liability someone rolls and ankle, they sue for damages. Would have been different if there were crossings in the middle of the platform so the passengers could cross.
