Mothballed since 1989? How in the world was this video shot in 1992???? And how did 4501 operate during the filming of "October Sky" in 1998?

Nice to see this! Interesting water tender, there. Never seen that one on the NS trips before.

Man I miss Southern Railway 2-8-2 #4501. I want to see her runing again?

Will we ever see steam engines and CSX and NS mix again? Why are CSX and NS so against steam but short lines and regionals are more open to steam? I wish there was more variety in long distance steam excursions in the eastern US. In eastern PA where I live we have plenty of steam including Steamtown and Reading and Northern who have the trackage to run long excursions. I was just on the Tunkhannock, PA #425 excursion this year. It was a great trip, about 79 miles each way from Tunk to Jim Thorpe and back, steam in the lead both ways, I think it's currently the longest steam excursion in the eastern US beating out Steamtown and Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum who operate 100-104 mile round trips maximum. What is going on with the #4501? Is it in storage at TVRM awaiting restoration?
