Remarks: Due to a large wildfire on Raton Pass on June 12, Amtrak's Southwest Chief trains 3 and 4 were rerouted from Albuquerque to Newton, KS via Amarillo. I went out on Tuesday June 14 and caught train 3 as it passed through CP west Amarillo on the second day of the reroutes. On Wednesday I headed to Canyon, and even though it was backlit, I got a decent shot of the train with 3 PV cars making the rare journey through the Texas Panhandle. Only time will tell how much longer Amtrak will stay on Raton Pass or switch to the transcon.
