Remarks: On the weekend of September 12th and 13th 1987 N&W 1218 ran an excursion to
Danville and back to Ludlow each day. A one way distance of about 113 miles. In
the first clip its shown arriving at SJ Tower just north of Danville as it makes its
turn on the wye to Louisville then backing into Danville before its return trip north.
Then its northbound run to Ludlow as it goes by Georgetown. Of note the new yard that was being built was for the future Toyota Camary Plant that was being built. Final scene is at Mason Ky. MP 43 or about 40 miles from its destination of Ludlow.
Absolutely wonderful video of this classic "A" from the Roanoke shops. I do miss her lowly wail from the distance. Of all the steam locomotives I have been fortunate to have witnessed in person, her whistle still sends a chill up my spine. Perhaps one day, she will ply the rails once again to show the youngsters what brute force can be had from pencil and paper. Thanks for uploading this one, it has brought a wonderful smile to the beginning of my day today.
