Remarks: The trains at Summit, in southern California's Cajon Pass: First, a Santa Fe eastbound rounds the curve into summit (ATSF SD45 5580, another SD45, an SD24 and an SD40). Then, another Santa Fe eastbound, led by GP35 3379, GP35 3445, SD24 4570, SD24 4536 and GP35 3354, is seen entering Summit at ground level. Finally, Union Pacific's westbound City of Los Angeles passes through Summit behind an A/B/B/B/A set of E-units. This is the original Summit - in 1972 the track was lowered and the curve widened, and Summit was never again the same.

Wow!! How fantastic to see old film (yes, film!) of the original Cajon Summit before the major realignment that changed the entire character of the iconic mountain crossing. And the rare film of the City of Los Angeles is a wonderful archive-- one of only two pieces of film of that UP train on this site. A great submission!
