Remarks: We are at the east end of Falls Cut tunnel on SandPatch grade as we watch 396 come east threw the tunnel with Chessie, Seaboard, C&O units. The second units dynamic brakes goes up in sparks and flames as it enters the tunnel and passes us. We quickly headed to Hyndman to catch up with the train. When 396 passed us there, the second unit was shut down, and no outside damage was seen. 10/08/1989. Thanks for watching. Jackmp294.5.
